Stellar film & album from Noah and the Whale. A bit of visual and musical inspiration in a drab grey day…

My latest movie experience, and one which I haven’t quite been able to digest yet. But the impressions are growing on me, and I felt a pang of photographic inspiration, something rare these days. The story of Mia, a 15 year old living in the destitute suburbs of Essex, UK. Not an uncommon scene for British film, yet it had an interesting nerve and an ability to capture beauty admist all the problems. Both Kate Jarvis and Michael Fassbender were excellent. A clip from the first part of the movie.

Here’s the performance of “Von” from the Heima documentary. My favorite track of all Sigur Ròs songs, so intense and emotional, it nearly always bring me close to tears…

Missing Iceland

Shuffling through my Spotify playlist gave me Sigur Rós with “Von” today, and I was immediately taken back to Iceland, as I saw it during a magical journey there in September 2009. For Christmas I put together a book of the pictures I took as a present to my fellow travellers. It’s in Norwegian, but 99% photo based, and you can see it all in the new Blurb preview below.

The classic obedience experiment that Milgram (1963) conducted in the 1960s continues to be relevant even today. A French documentary that took on the form of a fake game show tested the effect of TV authority on the obedience rate of unknowing subjects. The results? A staggering 82% were willing to administer what they were led to believe were deadly shocks to the other “contestant” (in reality an actor).

Mindblowing work by photographer Joey Lawrence, from his personal series entitled “Abyssinia”. The subtlety of light and integrity of the subjects is unique. See the rest of this series and more amazing work at www.joeyl.com, highly recommened! He’s only 20 years old, unbelievable and enviable of course. From his commercial portfolio, he did the photography for the now “iconic” Twilight posters - not that that’s something I particularly care about. :)
